NYCS 2018 Artist to Watch Where Are They Now: Cale Dodds

Cale Dodds

New York Country Swag 2018 Artist to Watch, Cale Dodds has already proved his talent as a songwriter, having co-written tracks like A Thousand Horses’, “(This Ain’t No) Drunk Dial”. Lately, he set to put his own voice to the songs he’s penned and is currently on his way to chart-topping music. Dodds is one of the biggest artists on the rise and everyone is noticing. Between releasing a number of hit songs, to rocking CMA Fest, and a Grand Ole Opry debut, Dodds has had a huge year.

Dodds started the year off with a huge radio tour promoting his newest song at the time “Take You Back.” He joined us in New York for a Swag Session in January where he played “People Watching” and “Out of My System” before answering some questions for our founder, Stephanie. Watch Parts 1 and 2 below.

His debut music video for the song “Take You Back” was shot on the cliffs of California, black-and-white memories meet the sun-soaked hills of Malibu making for the most perfect interpretation of the song.  Considering it was Dodds first ever video, we have seen it become a great success, garnering over 270 thousand views on YouTube.  Not too long after releasing “Take Me Back”, fans were teased on Instagram about a new project he had up his sleeve. “Take Me Back (To Basics)” remix came out, this time a stripped down version and another video to go along. While on tour Dodds noted that he enjoyed sharing his songs on acoustic guitar. The new remix was just that; raw, stripped down, and allows you to focus on the lyrics.

CMA Fest came rolling around and those few days kept Dodds very busy as he was performing on some of the biggest stages including, CMA breakout stage, Spotify Hot Country, and Ascend Amphitheater. Dodds also took fans around Xfinity Fan Fair X and filmed all the recap videos that highlighted events from the day that played on the big screens at Nissan Stadium every night. Interviewing superstars such as Garth Brooks, Luke Bryan, Raelynn, and Cassadee Pope, he showed that he is not only a talented artist but also a personable host.

“What Are We Gonna Do About It” was the next single to be released.  The video plays out as Dodds working as a janitor at a nursing home. Once seeing a flyer for an open mic night, he runs around finding all his fellow co-workers/band convincing them to perform with him. The crew agrees to play for their lucky crowd, the seniors, which only adds laughter. By the end of the song, the old folks are enjoying it just as much as we are now.

After finding success with his new songs, Dodds got the opportunity of a lifetime; to play the Grand Ole Opry. On October 19th he stepped out onto the famous circle for the very first time. “The Opry has actually been a part of my musical journey since before I moved to Nashville,” he said in a press release. “My MawMaw used to play the Opry on the radio back in Georgia growing up. It had a big influence on my knowledge of and love for country music. Finally getting to perform is an exciting full circle moment…”

“Where I Get It From” is Dodds latest single that highlights his life back home. Taking his friends out to the lake on a perfect summer afternoon, he filmed the video having fun on the boat on a river ride down the Chattahoochee River.

The up-and-coming entertainer has accumulated more than 26 million Spotify streams to date and counting. With a sudden release of new songs one after another, we can only assume an EP or album is coming soon. Keep an eye out for new content from Dodds through the end of the year. To make sure you stay up to date with Cale Dodds, you can follow his socials and add him on Spotify to be the first to listen to any new music he puts out.
