Everette: ‘Kings of the Dairy Queen Parking Lot: Side B’ – Review

Everette’s new project, Kings of the Dairy Queen Parking Lot: Side B is out now, October 7th on all streaming platforms. Take a listen and read our full review below.

With a traditional yet modern sound and a sense of humor rarely seen in the genre, Everette – made up of Brent Rupard and Anthony Olympia  – is one of country music’s most interesting new acts. Today, the duo released the follow-up to their 2020 album with Broken Bow Records, Kings of the Dairy Queen Parking Lot: Side B.

From the project’s name alone, it’s immediately clear that Everette is a band that doesn’t take itself too seriously. “From beginning to end of Kings of the Dairy Queen Parking Lot: Side B, we explore every shade of us stylistically and lyrically,” says the duo in a statement. “These songs relive the stories from our 16 years of friendship and musical partnership that made Everette. We feel like the world can use a little off-the-wall crazy to escape every now and then, and we’d love to take you there and back again.”

From the opening strains of “Run,” Everette sets the tone for an album that both veers traditional, yet toes the line to modern and beyond. On the mid-tempo, almost-Eagles-inspired ballad, the pair are setting someone free, with the hopes that she comes back. “Run wild free and when you run out of road,” They plead. “Baby run, run, run// run right back to me.”

Meanwhile, the dynamic duo introduce a hand-clapping twang on the sunny, banjo-laden “Woo Hoo Hoo,” which has them looking at the bright side of life. “Life’s too short to see your glass half empty,” They muse. “Gotta understand when half is plenty.”

In that same vein is the endlessly catchy “Shunk as Drit,” which is a tongue-in-cheek twangy celebration of one’s last day on Earth. On “She Got That From Me,” they offer a clever lyrical spin on the idea of being the heartbreaker as opposed to the heartbroken, while “Wild Woman” is a driving guitar-heavy track about a woman who simply drives them wild.

There’s also the uber-catchy standout tracks, “Gonna Be a Problem” and “Make Me Want One.” The former could easily be an Eric Church single, in the best way possible, while the latter is another immediate earworm, finding the boys wanting things they’ve never wanted before, in a clever way that is purely Everette.

“You’re gonna be a smile stuck in my head // Makin’ me roll around in my bed // Drivin’ all night with bloodshot eyes // Tryna get to you by the mornin’ ligh t// You’re gonna be the reason // I’m havin’ trouble breathin’ // I can already see it now // You’re gonna be // You’re gonna be a problem”

Side B ends with “Get By,” a catchy singalong track, made for a live show, the pair admitting that we’re all alike, as “we’re all trying to get by.”

With a mix of clever lyrics and classic country instrumentation, Kings of the Dairy Queen Parking Lot: Side B is truly one of the most interesting projects in recent memory. Despite not taking themselves too seriously, Everette still manages to put out pure country bangers that are sure to take them from the Dairy Queen parking lot to the main stage in no time.

The one-year anniversary of Lily Rose’s debut album Stronger Than I Am, featuring the RIAA Gold-certified single, “Villain” just passed, and the rising singer-songwriter is celebrating it with a new song, “Whatcha Know About That.”

Written by Dave Pittenger, Jonathan Hutcherson, Sydney Cubit, and Miranda Glory, the singer attempts to learn more about her current love interest by asking her how familiar she is with country living. Rose combines her pop-influenced swagger with plenty of southern imagery to create a fun sound fit for country radio.

“I wanna know whatcha know about that // Do you love a little Dolly P coming through the dash // Does your mama’s sweet tea make the hot days cold // Mmm mmm that’s you and me both”

This track continues the next chapter of her artistry, following past releases such as “I’d Be You” and “In My Drinks.” Lily Rose can add these songs to her live set as she kicks off her tour with Dylan Scott tonight in Springfield, Missouri. For all tour dates and tickets, head to her website.

Jordan Harvey Releases New Song “I Will”

Jordan Harvey’s brand new song, “I Will” is out now, October 7th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the catchy new track below.

Following the release of his debut single, “Alabama Girl,” singer-songwriter, Jordan Harvey is sharing another new song with fans. Today, the rising artist continues his solo journey, releasing brand new track, “I Will.”

The easy listening single is swoon-worthy, encouraging girls to be with a guy who puts them on a pedestal. Harvey sings lyrics like let’s, “get your beautiful world back to spinning,” which showcases how sincere he is throughout the song. “I Will” is also as catchy as can be, which is just an added bonus.

“If he won’t hold you close // Every time your song plays // Cause he don’t want to dance // And if he don’t take you out // to your favorite bar downtown // Girl, he don’t know what he has // He should be letting you shine, letting you take all his time, baby // He should be treating you write // If he won’t, I will”

According to the singer, “I’ve always wanted to have music that everyone can relate to, to be universal enough, with a lyric simple enough, that everyone can tap into that feeling, that point in their life. If you feel something, someone else will feel it too.” It is safe to say that he accomplished that with this new song.

Avery Anna: ‘Mood Swings’ – EP Review

Avery Anna’s EP, Mood Swings, is out now, October 7th on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new project below and check out our full review.

With over 27.5 million likes and 1.5 million followers on TikTok, Avery Anna has made quite the name for herself. She’s opened for Josh Turner, Martina McBride, Parmalee, and even scored a viral Kelly Clarkson #Kellyoke cover of her song “Narcissist” on the superstar’s television show.

Today, the Flagstaff, Arizona native releases her debut EP with Warner Music Nashville, Mood Swings. Produced by David Fanning, each song on the seven-track project was co-written by Anna, invoking hints of Taylor Swift, Lucie Silvas, Kelsea Ballerini, and Ingrid Andress.

Mood Swings is made up of songs that are inspired by moments in my own life where I have felt either really happy, really in love, really confused, or even really sad,” revealed the rising star. “These songs come straight from the heart, so I am so excited for you to hear them!”

“I’m seventeen years old // My socks don’t match // Any other clothes I wear // When I get stressed I wanna dye my hair // Say ‘yes’ when I mean ‘no’ // Sometimes I think my Arizona license plate // Is my best personality trait,” Anna begins on the EP’s opening track “la di da,” introducing herself to listeners as an unapologetically honest ingenue.

This trend weaves its way through the EP, the honest vulnerability in each song is sure to endear Anna to her ever-growing fanbase. There’s the empowering first single, “Narcissist,” a piano-driven ballad that’s cleverly directed at an ex who can’t quite get over himself.

“’Cause you say that I’m crazy // You say that you’re sorry // Won’t happen again // You say I’m dramatic // I’m overreacting // And maybe I am // And I know you’ll get over me // But can you get over yourself? // Before you go and love somebody else // You should probably get some help.”

While it’s “Narcissist” that caused Anna to truly break out beyond TikTok, the EP continues to show a depth rarely seen on debut projects. On the stunning, “what made you think?,” which she co-wrote with Andy Sheridan and Seth Ennis, she finds herself caught up with an ex who can’t help but to overstep his boundaries. “What made you think I should care what made you think of me?” She asks with a wisdom way beyond her 17 years.

“biggest t-shirt” is a song for every person, a heart-wrenching letter to Anna’s insecurities, hidden beneath an oversized shirt. “She knows she’s beautiful,” She sings, voice breaking. “But she thinks the mirror lies, but she keeps it all inside.” Meanwhile, “Critic” finds her dealing with a naysayer, who can’t help but put her down. “I thought I was my own worst critic,” she muses on the lush ballad. “But it’s you.”

Meanwhile, “lovesick” finds her in the throes of new love, while “Good Days” is a sunny and earwormy bop. Things are looking bright for Anna on the EP’s final track, declaring that nothing is going to bring her down, as “let them say what they say, ain’t nobody throwing shade on my good day.”

While Avery Anna may have begun her career singing covers in the bathtub, her new EP, Mood Swings, is certain to take her from the bathroom to the big stage in no time

Who Is Anna Vaus? The Story Behind Her Journey to Country Music

Who is Anna Vaus? The singer-songwriter joined us to chat about her journey to country music. Get to know the rising star here…

who-is-anna-vaus

Quick Facts:

Full Name – Anna Vaus
Birthday – 09/14/1996
Hometown – Poway, California
Current City – Nashville, Tennessee
Music Influences – Taylor Swift, Kacey Musgraves, John Mayer, Harry Styles, Maren Morris
Label – Longshot Records (independent)
Current single – Younger Version of Myself EP | “Kinda Don’t Ever” (*as of date of article: 10/3/22)

The Beginning:

Today we shine our spotlight on singer-songwriter, Anna Vaus. An incredible artist from California, the songstress is the perfect addition to your music catalog.

Growing up, Vaus was always involved in music and entertainment. “Both of my parents are in entertainment,” she began. “I was just around music and this creative lifestyle since I was a kid. I think that really opened up this whole world to me of parents who were like “go write a song” or “go make a video with your brother and make up a skit.” […] That was huge for me that music or videography could be something that I do for a living.”

She grew up believing that she could pursue this dream of music thanks to the support from her parents and her undeniable talent. When Vaus discovered artists like Taylor Swift and Kacey Musgraves, she found herself gravitating to songwriting. “Since I was a kid, I was like this is what I’m going to do for the rest of my life. I could see the arena tour, I could see all the things.”

While she loved artists like Swift and Musgraves, Vaus found inspiration in so many different artists throughout her upbringing. “Early 2000s country music was big, but we also grew up in this era of like being able to access any kind of music,” she began. “While I was listening to Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, and Rascal Flatts, I was also going way back listening to Billy Joel and Frank Sinatra or Nicki Minaj and Justin Bieber. So it was just this melting pot of music that I was exposed to.”

The Turning Point:

Regardless of who she found herself listening to, Vaus always gravitated towards the lyrics and the stories that music shared. This led her to pursue higher education at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. She set out to major in songwriting. “Belmont allowed me to exist in Nashville, study music, but also continue this dream. Once I graduated, it was kind of full steam ahead,” shared the singer.

Upon graduating college, Vaus put her all into creating her sound and artistry. “I just continued pursuing this passion that I had for music until it became signing a publishing deal and growing a team of people around me that believed in my music,” she shared. “This whole time it was just led by the songs I was writing and the things that I was experiencing that has become the music I put out today.”

Vaus also credits social media for expanding her fanbase and reinvigorating her love for music time and time again. During the pandemic, when no one could play indoor shows, the singer-songwriter found herself taking to TikTok, asking people if they wanted her to play a safe show in their backyards. This led to 62 shows and an even bigger fanbase.

Today:

Now, Vaus gets to celebrate the release of her brand new EP, Younger Version of Myself, which dropped on Friday (9/30). “It’s five songs, well seven because there are some features on there. At its core, it’s these songs that I feel the whole thing is a love song to a younger version of myself,” shared the songstress.

Later, Vaus adds, “All of these songs are songs that a younger version of myself could have used at the time they were going through the situation. […] It’s just this honest representation of the things that I have gone through.”

There are songs like “Didn’t Even Date,” which talk about getting into a situation-ship and being sad when it’s over. Of course, the title track is one of the many standouts, as it touches on insecurities that are super relatable.

“At the beginning of 2021, I sat down at the piano and I was just kind of messing around […] I have never really written about my struggles with my insecurities and body image, that kind of thing […] That song became kind of an affirmation for me to give myself grace and we all just kind of need a hug at the end of the day,” shared the singer-songwriter, when asked about the title track.

Overall, Vaus shares, “It’s just an EP that is from my diary. I’m so excited to put new music out in this world, but especially this music because there are some important messages in it. But it also a fun EP to listen to.”

Fans can anticipate more new music and shows coming soon!

Zac Brown Band : ‘The Comeback (Deluxe)’ – Album Review

Zac Brown Band’s new album, The Comeback (Deluxe) is out now, September 30th on all streaming platforms. Take a listen and read our full review below.

Zac Brown Band has been one of the most successful country acts for the past fifteen years, spawning fourteen number-one singles and three GRAMMY awards during that span. After their sixth studio album, The Owl received mixed reviews due to its varying sound, the group returned to their roots with The Comeback in 2021. Today, the deluxe version contains the original fifteen tracks plus six songs from the record featuring artists such as Cody Johnson, Blake Shelton, Ingrid Andress, James Taylor, Jamey Johnson, and Jimmy Buffet.

Zac Brown Band re-released “Out in the Middle” and “Wild Palomino” with Shelton and Johnson, respectively, in the summer, giving listeners a taste of what to look forward to with the deluxe. The four other tracks Zac Brown Band reimagined with features include “Any Day Now,” “Love and Sunsets,” “Stubborn Pride,” and their latest number-one, “Same Boat.”

“Any Day Now” describes the story of a relationship on the rocks where the woman tells the man that she is going to walk out on him any day now, to which he replies ‘I’m going to change my ways any day now.’ Unfortunately for him, the former came before the latter and he never got his chance to make it up to her. Andress’ ‘sad-girl’ persona makes her the perfect artist to duet with. She provides vocals on the second verse and chorus and harmonies with Brown during the song’s finale. The woman’s perspective makes this ballad even more emotional than the original.

“Told you all the things that I had enough of // And you swore you were gonna change // Any day now make up for the heartache // Any day now but I couldn’t wait // Judging by the screen door slam and these taillights fading outta town // Guess it’s any day now”

Zac Brown Band hailed Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, James Taylor to feature on the romantic and appreciative “Love and Sunsets.” The singer doesn’t have a lot of money to his name, but luckily for him, she doesn’t need a mansion, expensive truck, and diamond rings; love and sunsets are free and that’s good enough for them. “Love and Sunsets” was already a simple song sonically, but the new recording is broken down to the point where Brown, an acoustic guitar, and Taylor’s backing vocals are all you hear, emphasizing the moral of ‘you don’t need a lot to be happy in life.’

Jamey Johnson joins Brown and Marcus King on the “Stubborn Pride” re-recording. This story is about a man who finally finds true love and settles down. The slow, acoustic vibe highlights the raw emotion in Brown’s and Johnson’s voices. The electric guitar solo in the bridge brings added excitement to the blues-influenced country tune.

Zac Brown Band and Jimmy Buffett paired up and created the number-one hit, “Knee Deep,” and eleven years later, they reunite to re-record “Same Boat.” This fun song reminds us that we are all going through life together trying to make sense of everything going on—we need to learn how to be patient, work together, and agree to disagree. Buffett was a great choice for this upbeat island-tune.

Whether inside or outside the genre, it is always exciting to see major artists collaborate on music. Zac Brown Band is big enough that they don’t need help from other artists to sell records and generate streams, but the output on this project sure is special.

Zac Brown Band – The Comeback Deluxe Track List:

  1. Wild Palomino featuring Cody Johnson
  2. Out In The Middle featuring Blake Shelton
  3. Any Day Now featuring Ingrid Andress

Russell Dickerson Drops Brand New Song + Announces Self-Titled Album

Russell Dickerson drops a brand new song, “I Wonder,” ahead of his self-titled album, dropping November 4th. Listen to the new track here.

Today is a good day for country music! Russell Dickerson surprises with a brand new track and also revealed plans for album number three. Slated for a November 4th release, the self-titled album is set to have 15 tracks, including Dickerson’s current single “She Likes It” ft. Jake Scott. Today, we get a taste of the project with his new song, “I Wonder.”

Although we are used to Dickerson giving us catchy love songs to swoon after, “I Wonder” is a different type of song – but still just as captivating. The track encompasses remorse and introspection post-break-up. With “I Wonder,” the singer-songwriter proves that he can convey any emotion through his lyrics.

“I said goodbye // I drove away // Said I ain’t the one, lied to your face // About half a mile, all gas, no breaks // Thought I was right // My mind was made // Then I see your lipstick on a Starbucks cup // Got me thinking I might of messed up // Can I live and never kiss those lips again // And I wonder”

As we anxiously anticipate album number 3, “I Wonder” is a must-add to your music catalog. It is also the perfect addition to his live shows. Dickerson is one step closer to that coveted Entertainer of the Year that we know he will take home one day.

Matt Stell Shares New Song “One Of Us” Out Now

Matt Stell’s new song, “One Of Us,” is out now, September 30th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new, relatable track below.

On the heels of his radio single, “Man Made,” Matt Stell is sharing more new music with his growing fanbase. Today the singer-songwriter releases a relatable, feel-good track entitled, “One Of Us.”

Written by James Barker, Travis Wood, Gavin Slate, and Jim McCormick, the new single is all about all the characters we encounter during our upbringing. Despite all the different places we have grown up in, the small-town dreams, headaches, and everything in between are all the same. In the chorus, Stell proclaims that we are all one in the same aka the title, “One Of Us.”

“We all talk a little small-town bunch of raised right-round-here kids keepin’ it country // We all know a little dirt road // 80-hour workload week never hurt nobody // One of us got a chain if you get stuck //  One of us got a cooler full of cold Bud in the back of his truck // And if that sounds like you then you might be one of us // Yeah, you might be one of us”

The song feels nostalgic and hopeful; despite touching upon the failures we encounter on our journey too. Although Stell did not pen this song, it is hard to hear anyone else deliver its message in this way. This is another great song for the singer’s growing catalog.

HARDY-JACK

HARDY Drops Brand New Country-Rock Song “JACK”

HARDY’s new song, “JACK” is out now, September 30th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new track below.

In this new era of HARDY music, HARDY continues to prove why he is one of the best songwriters in the country music genre and one of the most entertaining performers. While “SOLD OUT” set the stage, “wait in the truck” ft. Lainey Wilson further proved that the singer-songwriter has what it takes to go the distance. HARDY’s latest release, “JACK” is just icing on the cake.

Featuring enticing lyrics and a rock melody, HARDY absolutely crushes this new song. Written by the singer with David Garcia and Hillary Lindsey, “JACK” is literally a personification of what alcohol can do to you.

According to HARDY, “‘JACK’ was originally written before ‘SOLD OUT,’ so it kind of got the ball rolling. He later shares in a recent press release, “I love the story it tells — it’s got some deep undertones about alcohol and how it can have a strong grip on people and can really bring you down. I hope people can kind of read through that lyric and understand it. It rocks, and I’m excited for the world to hear it.”

“Don’t listen to momma // Hell I ain’t the devil // Ditch me when you wanna // But if you need a little // I can fix your problems // Always got your back // I can make you famous // By the way my name is….”

We are huge fans of HARDY. He truly is single-handedly bettering the genre. With each release, he proves that country music can be gritty, fun, and meaningful. “JACK” is just another example of that to add to the entertainer’s growing catalog of music.
