The beautiful and talented Kacey Musgraves was the first country act to grace the stage. Introduced by actress Nina Dobrev, Musgraves sang her ethereal song “Rainbow,” accompanied by producer and songwriter Ian Fitchuk piano player. Her vocals were center stage throughout her beautiful performance. She would later go on to win a Grammy for ‘Best Country Album,‘ for Golden Hour, which she graciously accepted from fellow country artists, Luke Combs, and Kane Brown, as well as, pop star Meghan Trainor. The singer-songwriter also took home awards for ‘Best Country Solo Performance’, ‘Best Country Album’, and ‘Best Country Song.’

Musgraves returned to the stage, about 20 minutes later for another epic performance, honoring country music royalty, Dolly Parton, in one of the most iconic moments of the whole night. She kicked off the tribute with Katy Perry in their rendition of Parton’s “Here You Come Again.” The duo was later joined by Parton herself.

Entertainer Miley Cyrus and Grammy-winner Maren Morris joined forces with Parton as well, with Cyrus singing “Jolene” as a duet, and Morris lending her beautiful voice to “After the Gold Rush.” Their harmonies had everyone in the audience completely mesmerized by their performance.

The star-studded tribute continued with Little Big Town joining Parton on stage to sing one of her newer songs, “Red Shoes.” At the end of the incredible tribute, all the artists united together to sing one of Parton’s biggest hits, “9 to 5.” It was truly a moment that will go down in Grammy history.

As the night continued, the Grammys proved to be a big night for super-duo Dan + Shay. The men gave viewers another memorable performance, with their massive hit “Tequila.” With Dan providing background vocals and playing guitar, Shay blew fans away with his voice including his ending note that really shows off his vocal range. More importantly, the duo snagged their first Grammy win for ‘Best Country Duo/Group Performance’ for none other than “Tequila.”

Country music continued to take over the award show with Grammy-nominated artist, Kelsea Ballerini introducing Brandi Carlile’s first-ever Grammy performance. Ballerini shared “She is a true artist that shares her truth with a power and poetry, all her own. She’s already won three Grammys today. […] Brandy Carlile!” She absolutely killed it, giving one of the best performances of the night with her powerful song “The Joke,” off her album, By the Way, I Forgive You. Both the song and performance gave a platform to the marginalized population, showcasing Carlile’s true artistry.

The night came to a close with Keys’ presenting arguably the most prestigious award of the night for ‘Album of the Year.’ Musgraves won her 4th Grammy of the night, ‘Album of the Year’ for The Golden Hour. Humbly accepting the honor, she shared an important sentiment that fans, music executives, and artists across all genres can relate to, “Life is pretty tumultuous right now for all of us- it, it can feel like that and because of that art is thriving. Thank you for championing mine. I would have nothing without songs, for me, it’s all about the songs.”

It was most definitely a breakout year for country music on the 61st Annual Grammy Awards. We look forward to seeing how country music continues to evolve and diversify throughout the year.
