Jordan Davis Drops New Anthem “What My World Spins Around”

Jordan Davis drops new summer anthem, “What My World Spins Around,” out now, May 27th, on all streaming platforms. Listen to the brand new song below.

Jordan Davis has a knack for delivering the right song at the right time. His newest release,“What My World Spins Around” is another example of that. Although he teased the song back in March, the tune is primed to be a summer anthem.

Davis’ new single is a combination of a love song and nostalgia. Throughout the verses, the singer shares all the things he loves about his life and his world. In the chorus, we learn that the love of his life is truly everything to him. Davis does all of that while making the song catchy too!

“Girl that don’t even come close // To the way that it feels when you lean in and kiss me // The way that you dance when you get kinda tipsy // I’m wrapped around your finger like this ring I’m wearing // That look in your eye girl, when you catch me staring”

We predict that “What My World Spins Around” is going to be a summer anthem. Davis is definitely on an upswing in his exciting career!

Jordan Davis Releases Brand New EP, ‘Buy Dirt’ – Full Review

Jordan Davis returns with his latest release, a brand new EP titled, Buy Dirt. Available now, May 21st, on all streaming platforms, check out our full review of the project below.

Almost a year ago to the day, Jordan Davis released his six-track, self-titled EP which contained the fun “Cool Anymore” featuring Julia Michaels, “Detours”, and the current chart-climbing hit “Almost Maybes.” His new project, Buy Dirt is a pandemic-inspired compilation of songs in which Davis got the chance to rediscover his love for songwriting. He admits in his EP announcement video that upon arriving in Nashville, he lost sight of the type of music he wanted to write.

“I’ve always loved artists who take risks. I’m in a different spot in my life than I was when I released Home State. We all are!” he acknowledged in a recent press release. “2020 was a tough time for everyone. I was able to use that time to re-center some things in my world, and I didn’t want those lessons to go to waste. I wanted to create something special. The best way to do that was to write honestly, and we did a lot of that on this record.”

The record starts off with a short cover of John Prine’s “Spanish Pipedream (Blow Up Your TV),” which is not only a nice tribute to the legendary singer-songwriter who passed away last April, it complements the theme of this EP and the world the past fourteen months. It describes the benefit of disconnecting and going off the map for a little while. It allows one to live carefree in the moment and take in all of life’s little pleasures. Davis slowed down the track immensely to emphasize the current meaning of the song.

The title track is the centerpiece of the project and features country superstar Luke Bryan. The song’s narrator is sitting on a back porch with his grandfather, listening to the old man dispense pearls of wisdom between sips of hot coffee. Over a light, string melody, Davis and Bryan summarize the man’s advice in one quote: “you can’t buy happiness, but you can buy dirt.” Life moves fast and you have to appreciate and take advantage of your short time here on Earth. Finding the person of your dreams, doing something you love for a living, practicing your faith, and raising a family are the keys to happiness. Davis talked about working with the singer who he grew up listening to on the radio:

“We sat around the fire after a golf tournament one day, smoking cigars and talking about everything but music,” he recalled. “That conversation always stuck with me. Luke isn’t just a great entertainer; he’s a great Dad, a great husband, and a great friend, too. That’s what ‘Buy Dirt’ embodies. When I wrote ‘Buy Dirt,’ I knew he could relate to the song’s message.”

“Need To Not” and “Lose You” were both previously released. The former is similar to Dan + Shay’s number-one hit “How Not To,” as they both express the singer’s struggle with letting his former lover go. He knows he should just go home and watch TV, but driving past her block tests his temptation and brings back old, unwelcomed feelings. The latter sprinkles small amounts of steel-guitar over a pop production. The man in the song sees a couple at a restaurant that seems to have had better days. This makes him fear that maybe someday he and his partner will slowly grow apart as well. He confesses he is in this relationship for the long haul and even the thought of losing her is too difficult to process.

“I Still Smoked” tells the story of young love. The singer reminisces on the time when he and his now-wife met. He remembers all the details of that night from the weather, the drink in her cup, and the artist playing on the radio. People doubted their relationship, including her mom, but that only made their love stronger.

“We were runway flames in a backseat fire // Growing up fast on Renegade tires // Didn’t worry about tomorrow and sure didn’t worry about us // Every time I kiss you it feels the same //  I still remember us that way // Don’t it feel just like yesterday you drove that old jeep and I still smoked?”

“Drink Had Me,” is the most upbeat tune on the project, as Davis uses clever word-play to describe how a night out with his buddies ended up. His plans of staying home got interrupted by several messages from his friends and they finally got him to agree to have one drink, but we all know how that story goes. Instead of having the drink, the drink had him calling his ex and spending the night at her place, leading to problematic and undefined feelings. With a catalog containing plenty of slow and mid-tempo songs, this fun track will serve nicely during his live sets.

“The drink had me want one more // Won’t be forgetting what we broke up for // and doing the make-up, wake-up thing // I just went in there to have one drink but the drink had me”

Throughout the record, Davis shows that he has a lot to be grateful for. By combining elements of country, pop, rock, and R&B, yet preserving the southern storytelling and timeless melodies that make country music so profound, Davis creates a sound unique to himself. He has matured so much during his young career and it is shining through his music.

Hailey Whitters: ‘Living The Dream’ – Deluxe Album Review

Hailey Whitters’ brand new deluxe album LIVING THE DREAM is available now, February 26th, everywhere you buy or stream music. Take a look below as we dig a little deeper into the project.

Hailey Whitters' 'Living The Dream Deluxe Album' is available everywhere now, February 26th

Hailey Whitters’ ‘Living The Dream – Deluxe Album’ is available everywhere now, February 26th

For almost exactly a year, rising singer-songwriter and former Swag Spotlight artist, Hailey Whitters has been riding the high from the release of her debut full-length record The Dream. Clearly feeling like the album’s journey was not completely finished, the profound songstress is releasing a deluxe version of the project adding five new songs to the record, officially out today!

The record features familiar songs and fan-favorites like “Ten Year Town” and “Janice at the Hotel Bar.” The former is her dynamite former single, a song that paints the picture of what it was like for Whitters as she was trying to figure out if she should continue to try to ‘make it’ in Nashville. Written with the exceptional Brandy Clark, the track is one that will be a staple for Whitters for a long time coming.

The latter is another one of our favorites. Reminiscent of Lori McKenna’s awe-inspiring, “Humble and Kind”, Whitters combined forces with McKenna to express a real-life tale about an encounter with a wise woman named Janice. The song offers advice on how to live a good life, suggesting simple lessons like “get on the pill if you ain’t ready to start a family” and “make good love, good company.”

The songstress continues to remind us to be appreciative of life’s little moments in “The Days,” while expressing her truth in the breathtaking “Loose Strings,” a song about both love and loss. In “Heartland,” Whitters once again sings about life not going the way she thought it would, but alas, she knows she can always fall back on her Midwestern roots. “Heart – land in the middle of nowhere.”

The record also features “Happy People”, a song that Whitters wrote and was recorded by Little Big Town on their album, The Breaker. This new version is a mid-tempo jam that is laced with authenticity, gritty lyrics, and a traditional-country rooted instrumental. It focuses on the simple, yet complex concept of happiness and how to obtain it.

Whitters even collaborates with LBT on a brand new song on the record called “Fillin’ My Cup.” The track is a fun-loving, traditional-country jam, filled with banjos and eloquent harmonies. We’d love to see Little Big Town and Whitters perform this one live!

Like “Fillin’ My Cup,” the other four brand new songs are also collaborations. On “How Far Can I Go,” the songstress fulfills a childhood dream and duets with country superstar, Trisha Yearwood. The duet is truly timeless, and it feels like the two women have been singing together forever. Similarly, “Glad To Be Here,” Whitters’ dueling duet with Brent Cobb is just as enticing. The song is a nostalgic track about appreciating where you are, especially your hometown.

One of our favorite collaborations off the record is “How To Break A Heart.” A song that is truly songwriting and storytelling at its finest. It’s no surprise that Whitters combined her talent with two extraordinary musicians, Lori McKenna and Hillary Lindsey. The song is so beautiful and captivating both lyrically and melodically.

Whitters also collaborates with fellow rising country star, Jordan Davis on “The Ride,” the final song on the record. Although different than the other collaborations, Whitters and Davis prove how talented they both are. Their ability to stay true to their individual sounds, while creating something new and fresh has superstardom written all over it for both of them.

Of course, we would be remiss if we did not mention the closing track off the original version of the album, a song entitled “Livin’ The Dream.” Whitters inspires people to look at every step, every trial, and every hardship as part of ‘The Dream.’ For the songstress, her grind in Nashville, which included waiting on tables and living in a small apartment are all important parts of her journey, her story, and ultimately, her dream.

“Oh the one thing I’ve learned is that the world keeps on spinning / Love is the only thing that makes it go round / I’ve given it all with the time I’ve been given / I’m out here livin’ / Yeah we all just livin’ / the dream”

Whitters is an artist that is done trying to fit whatever mold the industry tries to push female singers into. Her artistry rivals that of any established superstar in country music, but it is her infectious vocals, stellar songwriter, and pure talent and perseverance that is going to take her far. Moreover, the fact that she chose to collaborate with the artists and songwriters that have helped her or inspired her on her journey just shows how proud she is of her craft.

NYCS Picks:

Hailey Whitters Announces ‘Living The Dream’, Releases Jordan Davis Collab

Hailey Whitters’ new song “Ride” is available now, January 15th on all streaming platforms. Featuring Jordan Davis, the track is the second of five new songs off her forthcoming deluxe version to her critically acclaimed album The Dream, re-titled Living The Dream. The song follows the first single to be released from the project, a collaboration with Little Big Town called “Fillin’ My Cup”.

“The Ride” is a reflective, driving down a backroad type of song. Sonically, it’s reminiscent of Miranda Lambert’s “Automatic” – there’s something about it that sounds like a fresh start; a new beginning. The lyrics match this vibe, written by Hillary Lindsey, Ben West, and Whitters is a song all about how everything leads to where you are now.

“But it’s the stars that make the night / It’s the low that makes you high / It’s the song that makes you cry / It’s the road that makes the ride”.

Life is pretty uncertain right now, and Whitters’ contemplative outlook on it is the perfect soundtrack for this time. Jordan Davis joins in on the second verse, echoing Whitters’ sentiments.

“Might be hard to see it through the tears / But you still got a lot of good in your good years”

The two of them together sound like they are pushing the listener and themselves to ride out the hardships like we’re all diamonds in the rough waiting to shine. It’s a timely, universal message.

Hailey Whitters: 'Living The Dream' due out February 26th

Hailey Whitters: ‘Living The Dream’ due out February 26th

“Jordan Davis took me out on his very first headlining tour when I was only an independent artist. I thought that was a bold statement for him to make, and I am very appreciative of him taking a chance on me,” explains Whitters in a press release. “He’s one of the key reasons I’ve been able to say I’m ‘living the dream,’ so when thinking about who to collaborate with on this project he was a no-brainer. I just love his voice and everything he’s bringing to the Country format.

Living The Dream, out February 26th, features five new tracks, with collabs from Trisha Yearwood to Lori McKenna and Hillary Lindsey. “I wanted to show fans full circle what ‘living the dream’ looks like for me,” she says. I felt it was important to show what can happen when you don’t give up on yourself.”

When Hailey Whitters, a 2021 NYCountry Swag Artist to Watch, released her life-changing single “Ten Year Town” about the journey and hardships of making it in Nashville, she pondered hopefully in the last line, “this next song could turn it all around”. It did turn all around for Hailey, and she is proof that paying dues and creating music that lifts people up changes everything.

Jordan Davis Releases Arguably His Best Song Yet: “Detours”

Jordan Davis Detours

Today is a great day for new music in the country world. Rising artist and one of our 2018 Artists to Watch, Jordan Davis just released another new song entitled “Detours,” a follow-up, “Trouble Town” and “Cool Anymore.”

The new track may be one of Davis’ most personal to date. Co-written by the singer with his brother Jacob Davis and Dave Turnbull, Davis takes fans through the ups and downs in his life’s journey. The first verse depicts his experience as a little bit of a rebel. He sings “I was a renegade ragtop, revvin’ up an engine,” adding later a vulnerable time in his life, “Parents got divorced, kinda dog that would bite ya / And I’d love ‘e and I’d leave ‘em it was what it was.”

Unexpectedly, Davis switches gears in the second verse, sharing with fans that meeting his wife was the turnaround point in his life. The song made a sweet turn into a long song for his life partner, sharing how they met, as long as, all the reasons that she makes him a better person.

“Sittin’ with a group of friends and sippin’ on a glass of red / And I don’t remember what I said but she wrote her number down / All I ever wanted but never knew I needed / She’s the dotted lines and every sign that led me straight to Jesus / Was a voice that made me hit the brakes, slow it down, have some faith”

Arguably this is one of the best Davis songs to date. He lays his heart on the line for fans to bear witness to, while remaining sonically pleasing. We hope to hear more tunes like this from Davis, as we anticipate his sophomore record.

One of our 2018 Artists to Watch, Jordan Davis continues to show fans exactly who he is through his artistry. Most recently, the singer-songwriter released “Trouble Town” and “Cool Anymore” and even surprised fans, with an upcoming headlining tour. On Friday, Davis added to his resume, releasing an Amazon Music original cover of the classic tune “Heads Carolina, Tails California,” by Jo Dee Messina.

The rising artist adds some modern-day flair to the classic country tune, while still keeping the integrity of the original. Davis’ cover easily fits in with the vibe of his debut record Home State, as well as, his newer songs. The singer showcases his distinct sound and vocals in all his music, which will continue to separate him from the pack in the best possible way.

“Baby what do you say we just get lost / Leave this one horse town like two rebels without a cause / I’ve got people in Boston, ain’t your daddy still in Des Moines / We can pack tomorrow, tonight let’s flip a coin”

On release day, Davis took to his social media to give fans an inside look into his inspiration for recording the song. “I’ve loved ‘Heads Carolina, Tails California’ since I was a kid,” he explains. “I wanted to throw a different spin on the song [because] there are so many interpretations when you have lyrics and music this strong. It was fun to take it on with @amazonmusic.”

It will be interesting to see if the cover song makes it into Davis’ set-list, as he is currently gearing up for his ‘Trouble Town Tour’ with talented songstress’ Hailey Whitters and Kassi Ashton. New Yorkers can find tickets for the March 19th show at Webster Hall in New York City here.

Jordan Davis Drops “Cool Anymore” Featuring Julia Michaels

Cool Anymore

After just releasing his first new song, “Trouble Town,” since his debut project Home State, Jordan Davis is giving fans, even more, to be excited about. The singer-songwriter premiered another new song today entitled “Cool Anymore,” which features pop vocalist, Julia Michaels.

Davis teased the collaboration earlier in the week, performing his rendition of Michaels’ song “Issues” on his Instagram, sharing that it was “stuck in [his] head all day.” Later on, he took to Instagram again, announcing the new song and calling the songstress “one of the most talented artists in music.” The combination of their vocals on the new song is unexpected, but boy does it work!

Co-written by Davis and Michaels with superstar songwriters, Nicolle Galyon, Ross Copperman and Emily Weisband, “Cool Anymore” is a vibe in itself. Expressed through the eyes of someone who loves you, Davis and Michaels encourage listeners to be themselves and to let down their guards. The song aims to remind listeners that they can be their silly, normal self at home and with the ones they love, and to not like their work image or persona to take over.

According to Davis, “‘Cool Anymore’ is a song about not taking things too seriously.” In a recent press release, he goes on to explain, “We spend a lot of time playing shows and it’s easy to get caught up in it, but this song is just a reminder to leave work at work. It’s a job. Enjoy it, go out to do the music thing, but then come back and be a husband and a friend.”

The song is groovy and fun to listen to. Fans will want to have as much fun as Michaels and Davis do in the exuberant music video for the track. Both the song and the video will music lovers to let loose and that we are lucky to have people who love us in our lives.

Fans can catch Davis on tour in the new year, where he will most likely sing the new tune with one of his tour mates, Hailey Whitters or Kassi Ashton. The tour makes its way to New York City’s Webster Hall on March 19th. For tickets and more information, head to jordandavisofficial.com

Jordan Davis Releases “Trouble Town” and Announces Headlining Tour

Jordan Davis Trouble Town Tour

Mike Spotz (@illkoncept) for NYCountry Swag

With both a number one and number two single under his belt “Singles You Up” and “Take It From Me” from his critically-acclaimed debut record Home State, Jordan Davis decided to up the ante, finally releasing new music. “Trouble Town” premiered last Friday (10/25) and it has the signature Davis vibe that fans are sure to love. Fan club ‘The Parish’ members got to hear the song first, as Davis made it available early for diehard fans.

The new mid-tempo song is laid-back, cool, and enticing, fitting into his catalog of songs effortlessly. Its sensual message is clearly meant for lovers, as Davis laments about knowing that he’s headed for ‘no good,’ but that he cannot help himself. Written by the singer with songwriters, Josh Jenkins and Matthew Jenkins, the song is as relatable as it gets. We all can relate to knowing that something or someone is bad for us, but yet, it is still desirable. As always, Davis conveys honest and vulnerable lyrics that make his music so refreshing.

“Gimme those ‘Leave here’ eyes / I’ll follow you out that door / Ain’t even left the parking lot / Already know that I’m heading for / Trouble town”

Davis just ended a successful opening gig on tour with Old Dominion. We caught his performance when the tour stopped in New York City back in May. Going forward, the recording artist will be a staple at country music festivals this season, including Tortuga as well as his headlining tour, announced early this morning. The “Trouble Town” Tour will feature two rising female artists that we love, Hailey Whitters and Kassi Ashton. Both ladies just joined Maren Morris on her GIRL The World Tour and we caught the show at Radio City Music Hall.

“I’m really excited to get back on the road and in front of my amazing fans,” Davis says in a recent press release. “Kassi is just a true artist in every sense of the word and Hailey is an extremely talented songwriter, I’m glad the rest of the world is getting to know both of them. Not only are they incredible songwriters, singers, and artists but they are even better people and I’m honored to have them out with me.”
