Hannah Bethel Brings Storytelling to NYC’s Rockwood Music Hall

Guest post by Andrea Rogers for NYCountry Swag

Hannah Bethel

Hannah Bethel brought the heart of Nashville to the intimate acoustic venue, Rockwood Music Hall Sunday night. Rockwood is one of the first stops that kicked off her summer 2019 tour. She honed in on the storytelling component of country music as she described the life experiences that inspired her original music.

She shared with the crowd her experience navigating New York City for the first time. “I travel a lot by myself, I do a solo backpacking and camping trip every year. I’ll go 10-15 miles out in the wild, I love it…It’s much scarier to navigate the subways!” she said jokingly to the crowd.

Bethel noted her musical inspirations: “I grew up on soft rock, it’s still my warm safe happy place” before covering “Dreams” by Stevie Nicks. As for her originals, she described the heartaches that inspired her songs “Last Summer”, “El Dorado”, The House is On Fire”, and “On the Way Down”.

She opened up to the Rockwood crowd about her journey that inspired the song “Train”. “I went through a hard season personally and professionally, trying to find my feet again in the music business. From the moment of its conception, I wrote this song with my sister, and when we were writing it I just felt like this song had this power and presence. I couldn’t explain it but I just knew I had to trust this song and follow it wherever it wanted to go”.  She recorded “Train”, made a video for it, and it made it to number 3 on the CMT Hot 20 Countdown. “This song has changed the trajectory of my life and it’s been pretty sweet. I’m grateful for it.”

This Friday (5/31), fans can look forward to “Rhinestone Rodeo”, her next single.  The song is inspired by her journey in Nashville and the music business. “I moved to Nashville when I was 18, I didn’t know anyone or anything about the music business. I just said ‘Here I am Nashville!’ It was full of surprises but it’s been the most beautiful journey and it keeps getting brighter. I’m very grateful”.

Check back later this week to hear “Rhinestone Rodeo” and our exclusive Swag Spotlight with Bethel next Monday (6/3).  Go to http://www.hannahbethel.com for tour dates and more information.

The Wild Feathers

The Wild Feathers Album Celebration Showcase In NYC

The Wild Feathers

Although The Wild Feathers may be new to country radio and country music fans, the band has been around since 2010, and just released their third studio album, Greetings From the Neon Frontier everywhere music is available.  Last night, Ricky Young, Joel King, Taylor Burns, and Ben Dumas who make up the band, played a show at New York’s Rockwood Music Hall in celebration of their latest project, playing the album in its entirety in order. These modern-day cowboys took the stage with their guitars and represented not only country music but blending soul with pop-rock as well. Think The Eagles meets Green Day meets Brothers Osborne.

The band has three lead singers that alternate and share the spotlight for each song, which gives the album a versatile sound while keeping the bands vibe cohesive.  Their singles “Big Sky” and “Stand By You” have been spinning on Sirius XM The Highway for a few months and the band played The Today Show yesterday morning with Kathie Lee and Hoda. You can check out their performance by clicking here.

During the show last night The Wild Feathers performed, showing off their incredible ability to captivate the crowd and convey their musical stylings.  Head to our Instagram to check out exclusive videos of their set and listen to their full album below.

Dillon Carmichael Plays His First NYC Show

Dillon Carmichael

The Rockwood Music Hall is an intimate venue, perfect for any artist’s very first show in New York City. Kentucky native Dillon Carmichael performed songs from his forthcoming debut album, due out later this summer to fans last night, bringing a little bit of Burgin, Kentucky to the Big Apple.  “I ain’t ever seen TV’s that big, it’s like being in the future up here,” Carmichael tells us when he introduces himself before the show. “It’s been awesome, Y’all got a pretty cool place here, I even had a slice of pizza, best pizza I’ve ever had,” he laughed.  We had the opportunity to chat over the phone last month for his Swag Spotlight Feature, where he explained he had never been to New York before.

His forty-five-minute, full band, showcase gave listeners a sneak peek into his debut album, filled with traditional country grit and a blend of soulful bluesy tones. The album which was produced by Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Anderson East) features songs about growing up in a small town and loving the greats like Waylon and Haggard.  He even performed a cover of the 1979 Jennings classic “Only Daddy That’ll Walk The Line”.

He performed his current single “It’s Simple” towards the end of the evening, then closing out a night of country soul music with the title track to the album “Hell on an Angel” he explained that he is a huge Lynrd Skynrd fan and that he felt him in the room when they wrote that song that day.  “This is my “Freebird”,” he said before playing the track to end his set.

Be sure to preorder Hell on an Angel here which is slated for release on August 17th from Riser House Records.  Head to NYCountry Swag’s Instagram for exclusive videos from last night’s show.
